Types of Badge Readers
Should I get a card reader that people slide a badge with a magnetic strip through, or should I get the card reader with the sensor that is tapped with the card? To me it seems like the reader that you slide a card through is less expensive, but what about maintenance costs? Also, I am worried about the badges themselves. I understand that the type that is tapped on a reader has a chip within the badge. I worry that this would make each badge more expensive, and I have 50 employees and steady turnover. The cards with the magnetic strip card seems like it would be more durable, and less expensive per card, but perhaps they are easier to duplicate. I will probably speak with a security consultant before making a determination on which system to purchase and implement. I also need to look into the cost of software for each type of system.
